Upland grassland management influences organo‐mineral soil properties and their hydrological function

چکیده

Land-use change acts as a potential moderator of flood risk, affecting vegetation and soil properties thus influencing the storage flow water across landscapes. This study, conducted in northwest England, investigated physical their hydrological function using overland moisture sensors, for five upland grassland habitats each created through management action. Overland was common, occurring up to 60% time with longer durations excluded from grazing higher density vegetation. Soil varied significantly between habitats, but there no clear threshold flow. Surface 5-cm depth types, saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ks) ranging several orders magnitude 1.3 × 10−3 1.5 102 m day−1. With shallow soils median Ks 2.4 day−1, saturation-excess determined main driver risk. Landscape found be significant grasslands therefore should strongly considered part management.

Spatial structure in soil chemical and microbiological properties in an upland grassland.

We characterised the spatial structure of soil microbial communities in an unimproved grazed upland grassland in the Scottish Borders. A range of soil chemical parameters, cultivable microbes, protozoa, nematodes, phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA) profiles, community-level physiological profiles (CLPP), intra-radical arbuscular mycorrhizal community structure, and eubacterial, actinomycete, pseudo...

Soil hydrological properties regulate grassland ecosystem responses to multifactor global change: A modeling analysis

[1] We conducted a modeling study to evaluate how soil hydrological properties regulate water and carbon dynamics of grassland ecosystems in response to multifactor global change. We first calibrated a process-based terrestrial ecosystem (TECO) model against data from two experiments with warming and clipping or doubled precipitation in Great Plains. The calibrated model was used to simulate re...

Plant soil interactions alter carbon cycling in an upland grassland soil

Soil carbon (C) storage is dependent upon the complex dynamics of fresh and native organic matter cycling, which are regulated by plant and soil-microbial activities. A fundamental challenge exists to link microbial biodiversity with plant-soil C cycling processes to elucidate the underlying mechanisms regulating soil carbon. To address this, we contrasted vegetated grassland soils with bare so...

Seasonal influences on fungal community structure in unimproved and improved upland grassland soils.

Seasonal and management influences on the fungal community structure of two upland grassland soils were investigated. An upland site containing both unimproved floristically diverse (U4a) and improved mesotrophic (MG7b) grassland types was selected. Samples from both grassland types were taken at five times in one year. Soil fungal community structure was assessed using fungal automated ribosom...

Crop/Forage/Soil Management/Grassland Utilization

For the long-term sustainability of the dairy industry in the Northeastern USA, manure nutrient application rates should not exceed crop nutrient removal once aboveoptimum soil fertility levels are reached. Dairy producers have shown a growing interest in brown midrib (BMR) forage sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench.) · sudangrass (Sorghum sudanense Piper) hybrids (S · S) as a more environment...
